Once a month, Hillside Community Church organizes a small team to distribute essential items to those in need in Harvard Square and Central Square. From 12:00 to about 3:00 PM, we follow a set route, offering socks, snacks, drinks, and—depending on the season – warm hats and gloves. These small comforts can make a big difference, especially for those experiencing homelessness.
Why socks? Clean, dry socks are one of the most requested items among people living on the streets. They help prevent infections, provide warmth, and offer a simple but meaningful gesture of care and dignity. Along with socks, we distribute snacks and drinks to provide a bit of nourishment and hydration, and in colder months, we include hats and gloves to help people stay warm.
This outreach is a practical way to live out our faith, offering kindness and connection to our neighbors. If you’re interested in joining us or donating supplies, contact Rev. Tom at pastor@hillsidemedford.org.
