Message: “Unhrehearsed Christmas Pageant” from The Hillside Community

Rev. Tom Hathaway - December 8, 2024

A Christmas Story?

What does the story of a Moabite widow have to do with Christmas? Everything. In this sermon, we dive into Ruth 1:1-23 and discover how Naomi’s self-sacrificing love transformed Ruth’s life, how Ruth’s bold love shaped her family for generations, and how this same love continues to shine through the story of Jesus. Join us as we explore how the love of Christmas – a love that gives, serves, and changes the world – is already at work in Ruth’s story and how it can take root in our lives this Christmas season.

From Series: "Words for the Beginning"

As one year ends and another begins, we reflect on the tension between endings and beginnings. Christ’s birth brought renewal into a chaotic world, while Mary, surrounded by uncertainty, trusted in a God making all things new. This season invites us to find steady ground in words of blessing – words that guide us forward. Through timeless scriptures, often heard in sacred rituals like weddings and baptisms, we’ll explore lessons of belovedness, hope, and starting anew. Whatever lies ahead, love remains our foundation and our beginning.
