When we think about strength we usually think about football players walking around with no necks cuz they’re juiced up on ‘roids. We think about bombs and explosions; tanks and soldiers; nuclear power plants, giant engines that make lots of noise.
But in scripture, Jesus redefines what it means to be strong.
And while acts of mercy and compassion and self sacrifice may seem small and insignificant, may seem to be the very definition of weakness, it’s that mercy, it’s that compassion, it’s that self sacrificial love, that is the very definition of strength.
It takes strength to love your enemies.
It takes strength to reach out to those who aren’t like you.
It takes strength to forgive those who have done you wrong.
And it is that kind of strength, says Jesus, that will change the world.
